Habitat Restoration 2 by sugarpeep
Habitat Restoration 2
Here's a sample of some of the art I do for work. This client wanted to see a sample of what native plant restoration could potentially look like. This kind of work is challenging for me. Often times I don't get to see the site. My boss just tosses me a photo and says "Make it look good." I have to make educated guesses about the soil, sunlight availability, slope direction, and water distribution. That's where my botany training comes in handy. It takes years of work to bring this sort of change to fruition but once it's completed, well.. a picture's worth a thousand words! Habitat like this, once restored, provides native birds and bees with nectar and seed sources. Less mowing is required. Native plants are also better able to maintain and restore soil health and filter rainwater as it recharges aquifers. The benefits go on and on!

Anyway! Hope you enjoy. :)

Oh hi, DA! Would you like something a little different? Sure you would!

Here's a sample of some of the art I do for work. This client wanted to see a sample of what native plant restoration could potentially look like. This kind of work is challenging for me. Often times I don't get to see the site in person until after we get the job. My boss just tosses me a photo and says "Make it look good." I have to make educated guesses about the soil, sunlight availability, slope direction, and water distribution. That's where my botany training comes in handy. It takes years of work to bring this sort of change to fruition in the field but once it's completed, well.. a picture's worth a thousand words! Habitat like this, once restored, provides native birds and bees with nectar and seed sources. Native plants are also better able to maintain and restore soil health and filter rainwater as it recharges aquifers. (Also, hey.. you don't have to look at an ugly dirt patch.) The benefits go on and on!

Anyway! Hope you enjoy. :)

I moved! I'm not even in the midwest anymore. Jon and I packed up our goods and kitties and moved to Seattle, WA. I'm sure this will affect my art. :3 There are so many new birds here!

Loved what I was able to find on a few mythical creatures. I need the references for my books. How do I view more of your work? and would you take requests? I find there are so few visual references out there for what I need.

Hello!
I'm glad to hear you like my stuff! All of my work is here for the viewing. I agree that there just isn't enough stuff out there. That was part of the reason I did the ones I've done. I don't really take requests but I do consider suggestions. I haven't done any skeletal work in quite some time (nearly a decade!). They take a lot of time to do and with my job and commissions I just don't have the free time to work on any new ones. If I get the free time to do more in the future I'll likely be looking at merpeople first. Which fantasy critters are you looking for?

I'm a writer and sometimes when I need to look up body parts or something to better gage how an injury or event would impact the body, it's difficult to find what I'm looking for. Gargoyles are the most difficult but I was also thinking of using some other mythical creatures (yet to be seriously determined). Wings seem to be my weakness.
